About Us

Since 1956, Carolina Beach Charter Fishing has provided a full-service charter boat experience in beautiful Carolina Beach, NC.

The family

A second-generation fishing family

There are over 100 years of passed-down and combined fishing experience between Captains John, Peter and Drake.

The Batson boys learned it the way you'd expect — from their father, a full-time commercial fishing and charter captain his entire life. They grew up on these boats, in this inlet, fishing this stretch of the Atlantic. What they know about where the fish are on a given week in a given season isn't something you pick up from a chartplotter.

That's the difference between a charter and a boat ride. We run private trips only, we fish hard, and we're just as happy teaching somebody their first knot as we are running the long trip to blue water.

Owner & Captain

Capt. John Batson

John has been running his own boat since 2005, after a lifetime of maritime tradition passed down from his father. He's the one you'll talk to when you call, and the one who'll tell you straight whether a date is going to fish well.

Off the water he's an NC Building Inspector, NC Building Contractor and NC Real Estate Broker — and he's been a volunteer firefighter since 2003.

Captain

Capt. Peter Batson

The youngest brother works part-time on the boats while maintaining a career as a professional firefighter. He's fished since he was a kid and is, by the family's own account, a great fisherman and an even better diver.

In memory

Capt. Caleb Batson

Capt. Caleb Batson

Caleb was lost on October 25, 2014, in a commercial spear fishing accident. He ran the Cheerio Lady for 12 years.

He had crazy skills at anything involving the water, and just as much talent on land — the aluminum welding and fiberglass work you'll see on the boat today is his. Every trip aboard the Cheerio Lady still runs on something he built.
